Clinical Supervision for Counsellors and Trainees

I have been a clinical supervisor for seven years and offer supervision to qualified counsellors and students completing placements.

I’m an integrative counsellor with a strong understanding of person-centred, psychodynamic and CBT approaches. My supervision style is honest, supportive and proactive. I’m comfortable offering appropriate challenge and helping you consider a different perspective, but you are free to take what works for you and leave what doesn’t.

I see supervision as two colleagues working through ideas together; sometimes two heads really are better than one. It can also be a place to offload when work and personal life feel heavy. Although I won’t be your therapist, your wellbeing is still an important part of our work.

Supervision for Qualified Counsellors

Supervision can include much more than discussing client work. We can also explore:

  • Ethical dilemmas and professional boundaries

  • Your thoughts and emotional responses to the work

  • Confidence and professional development

  • Workload, self-care and preventing burnout

  • Record keeping, policies and other administrative responsibilities

  • Setting up, developing or maintaining a private practice

I have worked in schools, GP settings, agencies and private practice, supporting both adults and young people. I can offer ideas for working creatively with younger clients, along with specialist guidance when working with ADHD and autism.

I have built and maintained a successful private practice and can share practical knowledge around building your own practice if you haven't already done so.

I’m also an experienced content creator and have built a large online audience through educational mental health and ADHD content. If this is relevant to your practice, I can offer guidance around creating content, developing your professional online presence and marketing your services in a way that remains ethical and authentic.

Student Supervision

I worked as a CPCAB counselling tutor for four years, so I have a good understanding of counselling training, course expectations and what is required from students while they are on placement.

Student supervision can include support with:

  • Developing your counselling skills and confidence

  • Connecting theory with your client work

  • Reflecting on feedback and areas for development

  • Managing placement requirements and client hours

  • Ethical dilemmas, boundaries and safeguarding

  • Preparing for reviews and completing training documentation

  • Helping you identify triggers and working through them

It’s completely natural to feel unsure when you begin working with clients. You can ask questions, talk honestly about mistakes and bring anything you are finding difficult without feeling judged. (I have been there too).

I can also complete supervisor reports required by your course. Reports are charged separately, and the fee will always be agreed with you beforehand.

Sessions

Supervision sessions are available for either 50 or 90 minutes. I offer face-to-face and Zoom appointments, or a combination of both where appropriate.

For students, the format and frequency of supervision will need to meet the requirements of your course and placement.
